As the calendar turns to October, the fall colors at Cazadero remind me that summer has come and gone so fast. It seems it was just a minute ago the staff was moving into their units, orientation was beginning and we were eagerly looking forward to our first group of young musicians for another summer of music and memories.
We had another great year at Caz, with our youth sessions producing some of the finest concerts I have had the pleasure to hear. Our Guitar program, Piano program, all of our Ensembles and electives continue to amaze our parents and concert attendees with the same theme repeated over and over; “How can these kids accomplish so much in six days?”
Hey Campers!! - The Cazadero Board of Directors is pleased to announce the new Youth Leadership Council (YLC). The purpose of this group will be to connect the youthful, energetic and strategic thoughts and ideas of campers and staff to the Cazadero Board. This is your chance to be heard - you can provide ongoing feedback and suggestions about camper enrollment, fundraising, and other ideas to the Board. Members of the YLC will be selected through an application process.
Interested? Want to know more? Send an e-mail to Leslie Blackie and Julie Wilder-Sherman at email@example.com or send us a facebook message.
The Youth Leadership Council is open to youth ages 15-22 who have attended Caz a minimum of 2 years.
Each session we ask our Caz campers to tell us what they think of Cazadero and their experiences at the camp. With this simple prompt, "Cazadero Is..." we get a tremendous return of creativity, artistry, emotion, joy, and outright exuberance. We want to share with you some of our favorite "Cazadero Is..." responses from this past summer. Enjoy!
This spring Suzan Windnagel, past Caz Board member and long-time Caz fan, made a very generous endowment gift to the Travis Davison Scholarship Fund. The fund was established in 2007 in memory of Travis Davison, Suzan’s late husband, who was a Caz alumnus and passionate Caz advocate throughout his life. The fund will provide three or more scholarships per year, in perpetuity, for young trombonists with financial need. We spoke with Suzan earlier this month about her experience with Caz and her decision to make this generous gift.
When did you first come in contact with Cazadero?
The first time I heard about Caz was when I met Travis in 1995 at an executive training program in Madison, Wisconsin. We both worked for financial institutions and were there to learn more about banking, but Travis just wanted to talk about how Caz was restarting, and that he was so excited he could hardly stand it!
With summer over and school back in session, it can mean only one thing, time to sign up for Caz in 2011. The 2011 Summer Music Camp dates have been announced and registrations are now being accepted for another great Caz summer. But don't wait. Not only do spaces fill fast each year, but there are Early Enrollment discounts available if you register and pay in full before December 31, 2010. Click here to download a registration form.
Cazadero Music Camp is proud to invite everyone to two fantastic events coming up this holiday season. We hope to see all of you at one or both of these great events!
Our Board of Directors is excited to welcome three new members to the board. Thanks to a renewed focus on board development, we have courted and elected three talented camper parents with the skills and enthusiasm to help Caz thrive now and in the future.
Julie and Jeff Sherman of Petaluma have twin girls who have been coming to camp since 2005, first as campers and now as staff. We first became aware of Julie when she and her twins volunteered at our first Holiday Reunion Party and then again a few months later at our Gala fundraiser. Julie was clearly focused and knowledgeable about the challenges and rewards of working with volunteers and she feels any successful charitable organization needs a strong volunteer base.
This year Cazadero Music Camp published its first ever Annual Report, designed to relate our progress, successes and challenges; to thank the hundreds of individuals, foundations, corporations and businesses and families that support Caz each year; and to convey the profound impact of our community's generous support. Click here to see the Cazadero Performing Arts Camp 2009 Annual Report, and please contact us with any feedback you have to share. We love hearing from you!
