As the calendar turns to October, the fall colors at Cazadero remind me that summer has come and gone so fast. It seems it was just a minute ago the staff was moving into their units, orientation was beginning and we were eagerly looking forward to our first group of young musicians for another summer of music and memories.
We had another great year at Caz, with our youth sessions producing some of the finest concerts I have had the pleasure to hear. Our Guitar program, Piano program, all of our Ensembles and electives continue to amaze our parents and concert attendees with the same theme repeated over and over; “How can these kids accomplish so much in six days?”
This summer 563 campers came to discover Caz for the first time or to re-connect with a place that so many have returned to year after year. For many, it is the musical highlight of their year, and for that we are grateful. Our Conductors this year came from all over the United States and our music staff comes from the best music schools and colleges all over the country. While I wasn’t able to finish the summer at Caz, I knew that the camp was in good hands under the direction of Assistant Camp Director Dr. Jonathan Knight, Deans Julie Stephens and Aaron Smith, Facility Manager Douglas Dreher and Head Chef Anita Mazzaferro.
We are already planning activities for Summer 2011. There are many exciting things happening at Cazadero as I write and I look forward to sharing these plans with you at our Camper/Staff Reunion on Saturday, December 18, 2010, from 2 – 4pm at Northbrae Community Church in Berkeley.
Our website (www.cazadero.org) provides all the session dates for next summer. We post our brochures and our calendar on our website, so visit the site often. Remember to register for camp early as we were oversold for our Junior High and High School sessions.
On behalf of the staff of Cazadero, thank you for making this one of the most memorable summers ever!
See you on December 18th!
