Goodness! It’s already the end of February and camp is just around the corner!
We’ve been busy at camp with many projects, but the biggest project we have been working on this off season is the Dining Hall. It was time to re-do the floor- the patches, the tile, the flooring, it all needed to be replaced, and Douglas Dreher with the help of Casey Jones, Mark Gensler, and Nick Ducusin have transformed the Dining Hall into a safe, LEVEL place to eat, rehearse and gather during the summer months. Picutures of the progress have been posted on our Cazadero Music Camp Facebook page, so if you haven’t checked out what is happening at Caz, head on over see what’s in store for this summer.

Last year we began our Bring-a-Buddy Discount program and it was a big success. We had nearly 50 new campers sign up as referred, first time campers, and just under 40 returning campers who received a refund on their tuition. WE LOVE THIS PROGRAM. It’s such a win-win-win; your camper gets to have a buddy come with them to camp, we get a new camper who will have a great time, and you get a refund at the end of the summer for your help in spreading the word about Caz. Learn more here.
Enjoy a few updates on what some of the tremendous staff from last summer at Caz have been doing in their "down-time" during the Caz off-season.
Taylor Weary, Counselor
I suppose I've mostly been living out of a suitcase since my last encounter with a redwood tree. I decided to take a year off before going to Harvard University in the fall, and I wanted to fill my time volunteering abroad. Starting in September, I spent 3 months in Cape Town, South Africa working in a daycare and a children's hospital in low-income communities. When I reluctantly returned to America, this Los Angeles girl experienced living through her first real (though mild!) East Coast winter in my new home in Pennsylvania. I knew my free time this year was rare and precious, and I had caught the travel bug pretty badly in Africa, so I planned another volunteer trip. I write this right now from my bedroom in Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon), Vietnam with the fan blasting the 107-degree heat and mosquitos away from me. I'm in the middle of a month-long stay, in which I am working with children with various disabilities in a physiotherapy clinic and a temple-turned-orphanage. If anyone is interested in finding out more about my adventures, I've been keeping blogs at www.taylorgoesglobalcapetown.blogspot.com and www.taylorgoesglobalsaigon.blogspot.com!

JumpStart in Music is Caz’s little known, but much-loved gem of a music program. These weekend musical retreats for school and school district music programs are the highlight of our fall and spring seasons at Caz. Working with our partners in the Oakland and Berkeley Unified School Districts, Oakland School for the Arts, Portola Middle School in El Cerrito and 8 middle and high schools in Sonoma County, Cazadero will host six weekends of intense musical instruction and fabulous outdoor fun this year.
JumpStart in Music is an intensive three-day camp music retreat providing a unique opportunity for students to experience the special benefits that nature and music can bring. For many Jumpstart participants, this is a first opportunity to immerse themselves in music, have a chance to get outside of the classroom and city, and spend an overnight at a camp.
